This is a very arid state, and much of its land receives less than 10 inches of rainfall per year. Some of the rivers that flow through this state are the Yellowstone River, Green river and the Powder River. Wyoming’s climate is drier and windier when compared to most of the US. Summers are warm with temperatures ranging between 5 °F (29°C) and 95 °F (35°C) in most of the state. Summer nights throughout the state are characterized by a rapid cool down with even the hottest locations averaging in the 50-60 °F (10-14°C) range at night. The southeastern corner of this state is known for its frequent tornado activity.
The Crow, Arapaho, Lakota, and Shoshone were some of the original inhabitants found in Wyoming when white explorers first entered the region. Some French trappers were reported venturing into the northern sections of the state in the late 1700s, but John Colter, a member of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, was most likely the first white American to enter the region in 1807.
Most of Wyomingites are Catholic, and in less proportion, you can also find other Protestants, and other religions. Wyoming’s gross state product was $27.4 billion in 2005 and its unemployment rate for 2006 was approximately 3.3%, which is lower than the average of 4.6% in the USA. Wyoming has a state sales tax of 4%.
