Half of the stateīs population live in Dallas-Ft. Worth, or Houston areas. Other front running cities in Texas are San Antonio and the state capital of Austin. Texas is rapidibly growing, due to job availability, low cost of housing, minimal state tax, and an insurchange of outside immigration (about 1/3 of the population is made up of illegal immigrants). That being said, english and spanish are the main primary spoken languages of Texas, as over 1/3 of the population are also of Hispanic descent. Texas also claims 3 surviving national Native American tribes.
Economically, Texas has the second highest gross state product, reaching 1.09 trillion in 2006. It is on record as having the most Fortune 500 companies, and claims the Port of Houston, which is one of the worldīs largest ports. Located in Texas are also many large scale airports such as the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and the George Bush Intercontinental Aiport. This is convienent since Houston is also headquarters of Continental Airlines. Texas also is the largest beef provider, as well as having an abundant supply of cotton and oil. While Texas is also known to have an extrodinarly large amount of billionaires in its residence, itīs overall residents retain an average median income of $41,645.
Climate wise, Texas has three main zones. This gives it a wide variety of weather. For example, average rain fall depending on the zone can range from 7.8 to 59 inches a year. It also is prone to tornados, averaging the most per year out of all of the states.
Itīs habitants have a love for many different kinds of activities. Rodeo and all sporting events range high on the list. There are their ever popular football team, the Dallas Cowboys, and their 3 NBA teams of the Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs, and the Dallas Mavericks. Texas also offers a variety of fine arts, with their Houston Symphony Orchestra and Houston Grand Opera. Furthermore, education is also important in Texas, containing 4 top scale Universities: Baylor, Univeristy of Texas, Texas Tech, and Texas A&M.
