The population of Oregon in 2000 was about 3.5 million and the capital of the state is Salem. However, the biggest city there is Portland with an estimated 562, 6920 inhabitants. Salem is the second largest at 149,305 persons.
Oregon is a great producer of agricultural products. Some of its productions are cattle, dairy, hogs, and interestingly enough peppermints and hazelnuts. Its estimated gross product in 2006 was about $132.66 billion.
Oregon also produces much revenue through its association with Hollywood. It is a favorite spot of movie and TV producers, with many Hollywood products being shot and produced there. Oregon has a varying climate. If you are in the western part of the state, there is a more mild climate, while the other parts of the state can be more wet, although the desert areas are an exception. Precipitation can range from 8-200 inches annually in the state, depending on the location.
Great places to visit in the state are the Prehistoric Gardens in Port Orford, Crater Lake National Park, Newberry Volcanic National Monument, and Hells Canyon.
