Regarding population, it is the 44th state in population with 902,195, and has the third lowest population density in the United States (6.19/sq mi). As of 2005, the estimated population is 935,670. ( 0.9% more than the prior year). There was a net increase of 2,141 people due to immigration from outside the country, and a net increase of 18,933 people from migration within the country produced.
In terms of geography, it is the fourth largest in the United States, with a land area of 145,552 mi². Only Alaska, Texas, and California are bigger. As far as its limits, the state borders Canada to the north, North Dakota and part of South Dakota to the east, Wyoming to the south and Idaho to the west. The highest point is the Granite Peak with 12,799 ft, and Kootenai River is the lowest with 1,800 ft.
Its economy consists of agriculture, a noteworthy lumber amount, and mineral extraction. These are its main economy resources. Furthermore, millions of visitors a year make tourism very important to the economy. The most visited places are the Glacier National Park, the Yellowstone National Park and the Battle of Little Bighorn site.
As of 2003, the per capita personal income was $25,000, being the 47th in the Unites States of America.
The predominant religion is Christianity with an 82%, followed with a 55% of Protestants, 24% of Roman Catholics, 18% of Non-Religious, 15% of Lutherans, 8% of Methodists, 5% of Baptists, 4% of Presbyterians, 3% of Mormons, 2% of followers of the United Church of Christ and 1% of Other Religions.
