Minnesota is the 32nd state of the United States. It was made a sate on May 11, 1858. It is located in the Midwestern portion of the country and as of the year 2000, had roughly 4,919,479 inhabitants.
It is ranked 12th, statewide, in terms of land area. It is also is referred to as the land of 10 Thousand lakes, as it as over that amount. One such lake to be found there is Lake Superior. Its capital is St. Paul, while its largest city is Minneapolis. These two cities are also referred to as the twin cities.
Geographically, speaking there are many interesting things to note about Minnesota. It contains the oldest rocks known on earth, has two continental divides and has two different types of primary forestry: deciduous and boreal. Several types of natural life to be found there are pine, spruce, and birch trees. These types of natural forage help to attribute to a large amount of elk, bison, deer, and turkey in the state. Due to all this forestry, there are also 72 state parks and 58 forest parks located there.
The state is a large producer of beets, peas, and sweet corn. It also produces over 75% of the country’s usable iron ore. Several tourists also flock there routinely to take advantage of the state’s terrain to partake in such things as hockey and ice fishing.
Some historical and cultural places of interest that can be found in Minnesota are the Wesiman Art Museum and the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra.
Minnesota is also the topic of several literary works, most notably in the Little House on the Prairie Series, Giants in the Earth and the novel, movie, and on going radio production of A Prairie Home Companion.
