Alabama is the 30th biggest state in the USA with an area of 52,423 square miles, 3.19% of that is water. It has an estimated population of 4,447,100, making it the 23rd biggest state in the USA. The major cities are Auburn, Birmingham, Huntsville, Gulf Shores, Mobile, and Montgomery (which happens to be the state capital). The center of population of Alabama is located in Chilton County, outside of the town of Jemison, an area known as Jemison Division
Birmingham is Alabama's largest city. Attractions include the Vision Land theme park and McWane Center, the Birmingham Museum of Art; and the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame (ASHOF), which was founded in 1967 and is dedicated to sporting legends.
Regarding history, Montgomery was the first capital of the Confederacy. One can visit the First White House of the Confederacy, home to Jefferson Davis, first president of the provisional government. Also, country music lovers from across the USA make routine pilgrimages to the Hank Williams Memorial. Also, do attend the Alabama Shakespeare Festival (between August and November), the fifth-largest Shakespeare festival in the world. Other Alabama tourist destinations and attractions include the US Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville; the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail; the Russell Cave National Monument in Bridgeport; and the resort towns of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach.
Alabama has a temperate climate, with an average annual temperature of about 64° F. Summer heat is often alleviated somewhat by the winds blowing in from the Gulf. Occasionally the temperature may rise to 100° F in the summer, whereas snow may occasionally fall in the northern counties and frosts are periodic.
